Against All Odds

  • A grocer’s daughter from Bhadreshwar, Sweta Agarwal, who takes pride in saying how her parents gave her the best of education despite battling abject poverty, realised her dream of becoming an IAS officer after standing 19th in the Civil Services Examination 2015. She had also qualified for IPS last year.
  • Daughter of a street-side barber, Manosi Pramamik scored a whopping 676 sealing the eighth rank on the merit list of Madhyamik 2016. And now her aim is to become a doctor. Her success has been all the more sweet because poverty and ill-health couldn’t make her waver. She has been suffering from a haematological disorder since childhood.
  • Tapabrata Ghosh of Jangalmahal took adversities of utter poverty, uncertainties of trouble-torn Jangalmahal in his stride and kept struggling till he achieved his goal. With a score of 656, he however narrowly missed out on a spot on the Madhyamik 2016 merit list. His ambition is to become a scientist.
