Life is a Marathon

A student is often found wondering whether he/she would be an engineer or a doctor, etc. During such times, it is worthwhile for a student to remember the timeless words of Napoleon Bonaparte: “You are what you want to be”. Here are a few more pointers:

  1. Life is a marathon. So, it does not matter where you start. The person in the front row is not necessarily the winner. And just because you are starting at the last row does not mean you will stay there forever. The most important thing is to make a beginning, feel the ground beneath your feet and move on.
  2. Pick any subject you like. You need to have some interest in the stream — science, arts or commerce — even if you do not know much about it. Normally, it is about scoring well in your school exams. If you enjoy the subjects, stay the course. You must be comfortable about what you have chosen.
  3. If you don’t get what you like, learn to like what you get. The key here is to learn to adjust your sails.
