Chairman’s Message

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official website of Bodhicariya Senior Secondary School, New Town, Kolkata. This platform serves as a window into our vibrant school community, its vision, achievements, and the many opportunities we offer our students.

At Bodhicariya, we believe education is not only about academic success but also about nurturing responsible, compassionate, and confident individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to society. Founded on 15th November 1990 with just 30 children, the school has grown into a thriving community of over 2,000 students. It is a co-educational English medium institution, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, and run under the aegis of Shishu Koruna Sangha (SKS) – a community development organization established by renowned Buddhist monks and social workers in Kolkata. The school remains open to all children, regardless of caste, creed, or gender.

The primary aim of the school is to provide quality, modern education rooted in the CBSE curriculum while cultivating morality, loving-kindness, compassion, and self-reliance. True to our motto, “Atta Dipa Bhava” – “Be a lamp unto yourself” – we strive to help every student discover their inner light and wisdom. The name Bodhicariya is composed of two Pali root words, BODHI meaning “Wisdom” and CARIYA meaning”The Cultivation of”. Therefore the meaning of Bodhicariya is to cultivate wisdom to be free from suffering.

In today’s rapidly changing world, filled with technological, especially Artificial Intelligence, and economic innovations, education must go beyond textbooks. It should equip students not only with knowledge, and skills but also with inquisitiveness, curiosity, creativity and values that inspire them to become leaders and responsible citizens. Education is central to nation-building, reconciliation, and meaningful participation in the global fraternity. At Bodhicariya, we seek to balance character building with a scientific outlook, preparing students to face future challenges with confidence and discernment.

It has been the dream and vision of my revered Guru, Most Venerable Jnana Shri Mahathera, to create an institution that fosters both knowledge and wisdom. We strive to emulate his ideals and uphold his legacy by imparting value-based quality education.
As Chairman, it is my mission to ensure that every child here has access to the best learning opportunities, guided by dedicated faculty and supported by modern facilities. I have full faith that our students will rise as winners in this competitive world, growing into ideal citizens who preserve timeless values while embracing new responsibilities with courage, clarity, and impeccable character.
